Herdade do Freixo Art 2016
In the depths of Alentejo, between Évora and Serra d'Ossa, lay thirteen hectares of ecological land where the vine lives alongside the grazing, the mounted and the cork oak, millennial olive trees and where some extremely rare specimens live, such as the black stork, in a privileged habitat. In this unique terroir, at an altitude of 450 meters, that some of the most interesting wines of the region are produced under the experienced hand of Pedro Vasconcelos e Sousa, in a subterranean cellar.
Vinification
For this wine, we use the best grapes from Herdade do Freixo, which are
harvested at their ideal point of maturation, with total balance between
sugar, acidity and flavor. The Petit Verdot grapes come from the oldest vineyard
exposed to the North, bringing an extra contribution of freshness and elegance to the
blend. After harvesting in 20 kg boxes, the varieties are vinified
separately. The entire process is carried out by gravity into the
frusto-conical fermentation with controlled temperature, mechanical treading 2 to 3
times a day, all in a very gentle way. After the 14-month internship in
new 500L French oak barrels with a soft toast, to preserve the
more delicate notes of quality fruit, followed by maturation in
bottle for more than 3 years.
