Quinta da Ferradosa Vinhas Velhas 2020 White
The will of one family can overcome all obstacles. When Joaquim Calem inherited Quinta da Ferradosa, situated in the best area of Douro Superior, the land was dry, remote and uninhabitable. Fulfilling his father’s will, he rebuilt the old house, nurtured and extended the vineyards and extracted some of the most fascinating red wines among the ones proudly produced by the region.
Grape Origins
Ferradosa Douro White shows the unique character of the different areas of the Douro region. The grapes for this wine are grown in two separate plots, where we have found vineyards that we feel express the Douro. These are plantations with more than 70 years of age, with a mixed plantation of many varieties, showing the true Douro old Vines. It´s a mixture of mostly granite soils and a small % grown in schist soils.
Vinification
All grapes are de-storked before being slightly crushed by a pneumatic press and the resulting must decanted for 24 hours at 10° Celsius in 2,500 litre stainless steel vats. The must is then racked into new and one year old 225 litres French oak barrels, where it will ferment for 25+ days at controlled temperatures between 10° and 14° Celsius. The wine will age in the same barriques for another 10 months, with battonage.
