The fruits of a meeting between a scientist’s dream and a unique terroirin Bairrada, the wines of Luís Gomes have witnessed a noble and notorious way among the wine enthusiasts, the critic and the region fans.

Vinhas Velhas White 2020
Originating in Bairrada, between the foothills of Serra do Buçaco and the sea, Giz is born, a wine that uniquely expresses the characteristics of the limestone soils from which it comes. Coming from centenary vines, from native grape varieties planted in poor and stony soils, the raw material here is scarce, but extremely precious. Produced in total commitment to nature, the intervention in the natural process is minimal, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. In the end, we obtain a wine without masks, authentic, structured, elegant and complex, full of individuality and character.

Vinards
Manual carried out on the 25th of August 2020. Grape varieties from centenary vineyards in limestone soils, with a planting date prior to 1930, where the Maria Gomes and Bical varieties predominate.

Vinification
Grapes from different plots and varieties pressed together, with a whole bunch. Resulting must fermented in used barrels, followed by regular batonage until bottling in June 2020. Tartaric and protein stabilization achieved naturally during an extended aging period of 10 months in barrels. 2634 bottles were produced.

Tasting

It is simultaneously a deep, structured and complex wine, the result of the perfect maturation of the grapes during the harvest and the long aging in barrels.

Citrus and floral aromas, reminiscent of orange blossom and lime. Hints of vanilla, spice and beeswax add aromatic complexity.

In the mouth it shows to be an elegant wine, full of minerality and freshness, well reflecting the calcareous soils from which it comes.
