From the passion of a Doctor and the ineludible talent of the oenologist Rui Reguinga, a vineyard, a wine house and a portfolio were born. Their products are now coming into the market, bringing great joy to the discerning aficionados and those who greatly appreciate the wine culture of Beira Interior.
From the road A23, the magnificent creation of Atelier Rua can be observed. This is one of the most prestigious works of Portuguese architecture. This place is the Adega 23 building, a monument to the creativity and dynamism of the Beira Interior region. In its surroundings, walls of cork can be observed. Joining it: a metallic stripe with odd forms covered by golden pigments. Around it, the vines take the lead view. Twelve hectares based on shale, white and red. The Arinto, Síria, Verdelho, Viognier and Rufete. Surrouding the winehouse, the Aragonês, Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet can be seen.
We are located in Sarnadas de Ródão, 10 kilometres away from Castelo Branco. All the grapes in here were planted after 2014. The ambition is something that comes from back in the day. When Manuela Carmona decided to offer this region the quality it deserves, only a plan came through her entrepreneurial mind: go find the best products, which she indeed found.
Rui Reguinga is one of the most well-known Portuguese oenologists. Creator of legendary wines, a household name of respect for the terroir, he was elected oenologist of the year by the prestigious magazine Revista de Vinhos in 2009. He has conquered a variety of trophies and awards and he can be often seen as a judge for the International Wine Challenge, the Decanter World Wine Awards and the Concours Mondial in Brussels.
It does not come as a surprise that the first harvest from this team has reflected the demands of those who created it. The producer first reached the market on October 2018. It did not take much until the critic and the wine aficionados praised their satisfaction with Adega 23. Carrying the symbol of this wine house, 3 wines were released: a red one, a white one and a rosé one.
The first one is a blend, composed of Syrah, Alicante, Touriga Nacional, Aragonês and Rufete. A garnet color and the intense and complex aroma with hints of black fruits, reveal a balanced tasted, soft tannins and persistence.
The white wine combines Verdelho, Arinto, Viognier and Siria. With a color of citrus, a strong aroma and a fruity sphere, it is a fresh wine with the right acidity and firmness, worthy of a silver medal at the first edition of Vinhos e Sabores awards.
The Rosé combines Aragonês and Rufete on a soft and elegant result. With a strong texture and the right acidity, it has a gastronomic profile which reveals all of its enchantment, along with a good meal.
It is safe to say that the strong start of Adega 23 is a presage for good things to come. The sublime harvests will now open way to permanent improvement on the quality of the wine from this fascinating region.
